Lamoriello puts an end to Brodeur trade rumor

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello on Wednesday shot down any and all rumours of future Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur being traded.

Lamoriello told Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada that any report stating he is considering moving Brodeur is "not factual, totally untrue," adding he has never entertained the thought of dealing the veteran netminder and never will.

Earlier Wednesday, the Newark Star-Ledger indicated the Devils "indeed discussed the possibility" of such a move.

Some Twitter followers said the rumblings started on a certain hockey rumours website.

One eye-catching piece of scuttlebutt had Brodeur headed to Washington for 26-year-old right-winger Alexander Semin, fresh off a spectacular regular season (40 goals, 83 points in 73 games) but disappointing post-season (two assists in seven contests).

Brodeur, who has a no-trade clause, is 38 but showing no signs of slowing down.

In 77 games this season — the 11th time in 12 years he has appeared in at least 70 contests — the Montreal native led all goalies in victories (45) and shutouts (nine) to go with a 2.24 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
